After high school, he attended Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. During his second year, he left for one semester to earn additional money for school and was asked to join the US Army by his Uncle Sam. He was stationed at West Point, NY as a cook in the hospital kitchen there and had every other day and every other week end off and began to work for a local contractor on those off days. The off week ends found him hitch hiking back to Indiana to see his sweetheart, Carolyn, whom he married later that year. Marvin and Carolyn have recently celebrated their 53rd year of marriage and have 5 children and 15 grandchildren. Marvin graduated from Lain Drafting College in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1958.
Their youngest son, Marvin, Jr. follows his father in the home building business having over 20 years experience as a building contractor himself and is president of Fisher Homes, a local building firm of upscale homes and a member of NAHB. He is also one of the builders for English Farm Estates.
The Fisher Tradition
ithout a doubt the Fisher Tradition is summarized with the phrase, “Building Together.” From the company's beginning over fifty years ago, its founder, Marvin, Sr, has operated with the philosophy that no one person builds a home. Building a home is truly a team effort. If Marvin, Sr. is the team coach, then over the past 20 years, Marvin, Jr. has been the team quarterback assisting in the supervision of literally hundreds of team players including lenders, engineers, planners, sub-contractors, suppliers and construction crews.
It would be an understatement to say that people who purchase a Fisher Home are the fans. More than, fans, Fisher Homeowners are an integral part of the building team. It's the homeowners that make every Fisher house a home; their home….with their personality and their individuality. Raising families, financial investment, retirement, entertaining, holidays, security, romance, status, lifestyle, personal expression and privacy are all important to the Fisher Team in “Building Together” a Fisher Home.
This year, Marvin, Sr. has appointed his son Marvin, Jr. as “Coach” or President of Fisher Homes and likely there will be a third generation in the next few years who will assume the roll of quarterback as their father was for many years. Marvin, Sr. has taken on the presidency of Smoky Mountain Estate Properties, Inc., the development corporation that is currently developing English Farm Estates, an awesome place to call “home”.
